Case Studies : New build housing sites

Highfield Farm, Pibsbury

Full planning permission obtained for a barn conversion and 4 new dwellings. 2 further dwellings were granted following an appeal.

Picts Hill

Outline planning permission obtained for 4 detached dwellings including alterations to the highway, ecological mitigation and extensive landscaping.

 

Case Study: Single plots

Curry Rivel

Full planning permission achieved for a detached dwelling in the grounds of a listed building. This project is nearing completion.

Sunnyside, Charlton Mackrell

Planning permission granted for the demolition of a bungalow and outbuildings and replacement with a dwelling, garage and alterations to the access.

Somerton

Full planning permission granted for the demolition of a bungalow on a smallholding and replacement with a large dwelling, designed by Paul Day Architectural Designs.

Personal planning permission granted for the stationing of a log cabin to provide accommodation for a family member requiring care.

Lakeview Quarry

Redevelopment of former quarry adjoining a village to provide 42 dwellings, business workspace, extension to school site, allotments, ecological mitigation and the protection of an archaeological site.

Curry Rivel

Planning permission granted for the demolition of a workshop building and redevelopment of the site to include 2 new dwellings.

White Lion

Redevelopment of an urban site to provide for 8 mews style dwellings.

Case Study: Farm redevelopment sites

Decoy Farm, Compton Dundon

Full planning permission obtained for the redevelopment of the entire site to include 4 dwellings. As the farm is no longer being used for dairying, most of the agricultural buildings are redundant for the purposes of agriculture. After previous schemes at Decoy Farm had been unsuccessful, we approached re:DSGN Ltd in order develop a new scheme that would make effective use of the site and provide a visual enhancement.

The team worked hard to come up with a scheme which would sit comfortably within the landscape in this sensitive location. The final design features a principle ‘farmhouse’, a barn style dwelling and 2 further dwellings arranged in a horseshoe. The design uses different scales and materials together with an extensive landscaping scheme to ensure that the development respects the character of the area.

During the process we held regular consultations with the local Parish Council and worked closely with a number of specialists such as ecologists and surveyors during the course of the project.

The proposal had great local support, and planning permission was granted in December 2017 at Committee.

Butterwell Farm, Pitney

Planning permission granted for the redevelopment of Butterwell Farm in a sensitive Somerset village location. The scheme included the redevelopment of the farmyard and agricultural buildings and works to the Grade II listed farmhouse following the relocation of the farm enterprise to a more suitable location outside the village.

The scheme included the conversion of 2 barns to form 3 dwellings and the erection of 2 new build dwellings designed by Paul Day Architectural Designs.

The farmhouse is Listed and works required Listed Building Consent and the adjacent stone barns are listed by association. The permission also included the restoration of the ford to the rear of the dwelling. Please see ‘Listed buildings’ for more information on applications involving heritage assets.

Case Study: Conversion of redundant buildings

Kingsbury Episcopi

Permission granted for the conversion of workshops to dwellings.

Additional application subsequently submitted and approved for the change of used of agricultural land to provide larger gardens for each dwelling.

 

Conversion of agricultural buildings

We have achieved permission for the conversion of a number of agricultural buildings to dwellings in the last few years under Class Q of the General Permitted Development Order. See ‘Barn conversions’ for more details.
